ABALONE

There are 2 types of ABALONE caught by ATSSU DIVERS.

Blacklip Abalone

This is the most common type of Abalone caught in New South Wales. It has a black outer fringe on the foot and the shell is often covered by seaweed and algae. They range in size from 117mm to 150mm in New South Wales. The average weight including the shell is 300-350 grams but some can be in excess of 450 grams.

Tiger Abalone

This is a hybrid species of Abalone and although not common in New South Wales, divers do encounter them from time to time. It has a striped outer fring on the foot and the shell is covered by seaweed and algae. They range in size from 117mm to 150mm in New South Wales. The average weight including shell is 300-350 grams but some can be in excess of 450 grams.
